A free night stay at a Marriott hotel (expiring at the end of the year) inspired us to make a cross state trip to Kansas City. It was a very short trip but it allowed us to visit some friends we hadn't seen in awhile (and didn't take pictures of), see the Christmas lights of the Country Club Plaza at night and stroll around the next day, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather.

Weekend in San Francisco 1-4 February 2003

One of Randy's project's this year is the Presidio of San Francisco, so Bethany left Jane with her parents for a few days and flew out to spend the weekend and then some with Randy.

The year-round jacket weather of the Bay area was a welcome respite from winter. On Saturday we visited the giant redwoods in the nearby Muir Woods and hiked through the forest. Taking Highway 1 up the coast a bit we had lunch al fresco at Stinson Beach. On the way back, we walked over halfway across the Golden Gate Bridge.

On Sunday, we met up with two of Randy's fraternity brother's and former roommates: Jake and Jon (Pooky) and their girlfriends.

Since none of us had ever been, we decided to visit the south Bay's Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. While wacky, it wasn't as much as we expected and was certainly better with a group to enjoy each other's wise cracks along the highly scripted tour.

Upon returning from our trip to the Bay, Jane started eating solid foods. Beginning with rice, she been trying new foods every 5 days. For the first few bites of a new food she's a little tentative but proceeds to gobble it down -- what a good eater!

There have been lots of snowy days this winter, which officially was labeled the 8th snowiest (Dec-Jan-Feb) in St. Louis since 1890. Since Jane isn't walking, it limits the appeal, but we did get a cool snow suit and felt compelled to try it out.

The end of February also saw the start of Jane's first swimming lessons at the Kirkwood YMCA. OK, it's not so much swimming lessons as water familiarization, but you've got to start somewhere. To mark the occasion of her being 6 (and a half) months old, Bethany took a card full of pictures (actually 43). We're pretty happy with the results and they were certainly less hassle and expense than a professional studio (although the choice of backdrops were less "interesting"). Here are a couple:
