Meramac Springs Camping Trip
We once again joined some of our neighbors for the annual end of September camping at Meramac Springs outside of St. James. We missed the last two years (because of our honeymoon in '01 and then Jane's birth in '02), so despite having lots to do on the house we decided to retreat. It was very relaxing and fairly pleasant despite raining through the first night. We took Jane on her first kayak ride, which she slept through except for an initial few minutes of fussing about the life jacket. We took Jane to visit the trout hatcheries on site so that she could feed them, but as before, she slept through the whole of it. Sunday came too quickly and we returned home to the reality of disorder of our home addition project.

October
Devil Dog Garlic Fest
Mid-October brought the Hammond's annual gathering of the volleyball team to enjoy the fruits of the "stinking rose" and the fall colors at their family's A-frame at Innsbrook. When Jane went kayaking this time she stayed awake but didn't enjoy the life jacket any more than before.
Another happy and relaxing mini-trip in blissful denial of continued disarray of our home on Tuxedo.

Laumeier Sculpture Park
After Randy's broken wrist from
stepping off the porch at the house, a less strenuous weekend away from the addition project seemed in order. As such, the family, spent a lovely afternoon enjoying the fall colors in Sunset Hills. Like most of us, Jane doesn't know much about art but she was very fond of the whimsical Ricardo Cat sculpture, and we spent nearly a half an hour touching the Guadiesque tile mosaics.

November
With working on the house addition and getting ready to move back in, occupied most of our November 2003. We did celebrate Thanksgiving Dinner with the Curtis and Sage clans and having just moved back in on the Wednesday before T-day, we were even more thankful for than usual.

December
Randy's December started with a work trip to DC to research at the archives.
Shortly after a lunch at a Chinese buffet, he began to do his impression of the gluttonous
fellow requesting a bucket in Monty Python's Meaning of Life who ordered the entire menu (i.e. voluminous and energetic vomiting). Being a
peculiar shade of gray and more incoherent than normal, they decided to send him off in a ambulance to the hospital,
somewhat to the disappointment of the Archives nurse with an AED in hand who seemed rather keen on making sure it wasn't a heart attack in disguise. Instead, it appears to have been a good old fashion case of food
poisoning, probably the plate full of mussels from the buffet and within a couple hours Randy was hungry again,
albeit not for seafood. We've certainly been getting our $ worth out of our emergency room health insurance this year (along with the rest of the Curtis family).
The first weekend in December, Randy's college roommate Jake and his girlfriend Marcie came for a visit. Playing host was a welcome respite from the many weekends spent working on the house. On Saturday, they went to the City Museum where a good time was enjoyed by all. Fortunately Jane was a bit overawed by the whole thing and was fairly clingy. She didn't want to run amok but it's only a matter of time before here old man will be a hindrance to exploring such places instead of a safe haven.

Brother Vano's 30th Birthday Party
On the 13th, Bethany's brother Van was quite pleased when a Saturday night getting stuck going to his wife's lamo real estate agent Christmas party, turned out to be a big surprise party for him, far surpassing the small fake-out party earlier in the week. His wife Lisa rented out the Saratoga Bowling Lanes in Maplewood and invited all his
friends and family for bowling, pool and beers. An exceptionally fun evening!

Curtis Family Holiday Card Photo Shoot
Sometimes getting a baby to cooperate with a group photo shoot is harder than doing the same with pets.
Here's a few of the dozens taken during the 2 photo shoots we tried that were also
considered besides the selected "Miss Innocent/Dr. Evil" shot selected
(upper left).
